The Trinity – Part 1

There’s a concept in Christianity called Trinity. Small word, big idea.

What is trinity?

Glad you asked. First used by ancient church father Tertullian. It’s short way of saying a lot of biblical truth.

The Westminster Confession of Faith summarizes: “In the unity of the Godhead there be three persons, of one substance, power, and eternity: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Ghost.”

Saying each member of the trinity is a person, isn’t saying that each became humans. It means that each member relates as a person and not an impersonal force. They act, speak, feel within the context of a loving community.

But there aren’t 3 God’s

True. There is one God, (Deuteronomy 6:4) who exists in three persons(Genesis 1:1; Matthew 28:19).

We’ll go deeper with this next week.

Truth be told, there’s way too much to go into in one post. Entire books have been written on this part of Christian Doctrine. I’m trying to capture this in 4 quick blog posts. That’s certainly not enough time or space for this. So next week we’ll explore God the Father.
