The Trinity – Part 3

The past few weeks we’ve been talking about the Trinity. You can read those posts here and here. This week we’re going to dive into God the Son.

God…As Son

The how of Christ being the firstborn is a hairy theological situation, the likes of which should only be addressed by those with way more brain power than I posses.

What I will say is that, as I was reading on this subject, I came across the way the Jewish Rabbi’s understood this reality in the context of Genesis. As they were translating Genesis 1:1-2 from Hebrew to Aramaic. The word used for “beginning” (re’shit) is tied deeply to the word “firstborn”(bekor). So much so that when translating it went something like “In the beginning, by the firstborn, God created the heavens and the earth.

Yep, that’s right.  There’s Jesus, in creation. This is also backed up by Paul in Colossians 1:15 -17 and John in John 1:1-3

God the Son…God the Missionary

The big deal here are the implications when dealing with how we respond to the reality that God the Son came here. John 1:14 talks about the reality that God moved in. He moved in here. We have a missionary God. He moved in and experienced everything we’ve experienced.

On the ground

We have a model for what it looks like to live life based out of another kingdom. We also have a God who knows what we go through on the daily. Hebrews 4:15 We also have an idea of what it looks like to relate to God as our Father (read the last post). In God the Son….Jesus Christ, we have all we need for life in a relationship with God.
