It’s here!!!
Catalyst Dallas: Perry Noble – Healthy Leaders Needed in Order to Lead Right Now
- For some of us are in the middle of a situation that we’ve never planned
- Ministry isn’t going quite how we planned it.
- We’re a little overwhelmed.
- Sometimes things don’t go the way we plan.
- 4 questions to ask if things aren’t going quite the way you planned them.
- What am I asking God for?
- We really can ask God for big things.
- Some of us are in troublesome situations, not because we’re stupid, but because God told us to go there.
- Is it all about he numbers?
- Yes. It’s about the numbers of people who aren’t going to hell but are going to Heaven.
- “One of the problems is that we’re afraid to ask God for something big, because it might bother Him. God is not bothered by our big request. I think God is actually bothered more, many times, by our small faith.” -Perry Noble
- What am I willing to go through?
- God is asking some of you, do you want mild or wild?
- “The size of the vision that God is going to give us is directly in proportion to the pain that you and I are willing to endure and there are too many church leaders today going God I want to follow you but I want to take up my matress, I don’t want to take up my cross.” -Perry Noble
- Alot of church leaders want to pray, but not many want to perspire and do anything significant, but if you’re going to follow Jesus it’s going to get wild and unpredictable.
- Am I seeing Him clearly?
- God sometimes allows us to go through harder things so that we can see him more clearly.
- Shadrack, Meshak, and Abednego didn’t see Jesus until they were in the middle of the furnace.
- What am I willing to believe?
- Close youre eyes, face forward, and run
- If you stop looking at the problem, and run toward it, it’s not as bad as you thought.
- In the middle of one of your biggest problems in ministry, God will still call you to take a step of faith.
- “Then Jesus said, ‘Did I not tell you that if you believe, you will see the glory of God?'” -John 11:40
- We spend to much time trying to get people to listen to God’s word when some of us need to just step out and take God at his word.
- God used their pain for progress
- Everything here is temporary
- You are a temporary container and eternity is worth it.
Catalyst Dallas: Bob Goff – Love Does. Fear Not. The Power of Whimsy
- Be not afraid.
- Jeremiah 1:8
- Joshua 1:9
- Creativity makes people not afraid
- Acts 1:1
- Look for many convincing proofs that Jesus is alive
- We spend so much time memorizing Jesus, rather than meeting Jesus.
- That’s what stalkers do. They memorize and never meet
- Stop creeping Jesus out by stalking him.
- Quit Thursdays
- Thursdays are for quitting things.
- If we never offload anything, then we’re hoarders.
Catalyst Dallas: Rudy Rasmus – Our Call to the Poor and the Broken
Chris Seay, the pastor of Ecclesia in Houston had the chance to interview his friend Rudy Rasmus who is the Pastor of St. John’s, one of the most ethnically diverse church’s in our nation. Below are the notes:
Rudy learned most about being present in his aunt’s food market on ailse 1:
- Lesson’s from Ailse 1
- Engage before judging.
- Most judgement comes out of fear.
- Embrace your pain.
- If you can embrace your pain, then it is easier to embrace the pain of others.
- Love before leaving.
- Love before leaving someone’s pressence.
- At the core of this is accepting who you are, where you are, and why you are, and then making the decision to go forward from there.
- 1 Cor. 9:20-23
- You’re the only Jesus some will ever see is misread alot to mean “You better be just like Jesus and perfectly moral or nobody’s ever gonna come to Jesus.”
- No one connects because they’re awesome. It’s not that, but rather, we like to put together our ____________ anonymous groups.
- What draws us is that we are looking for a group to walk the path towards redemption together.
- What has God called me in the place that I am?
- Rudy’s goal at this point of the journey is to become more peaceful, more loving, and to demonstrate with even more authenticity about what I preach everywhere.
Catalyst Dallas: Kirk Franklin – Story Matters
- Spent time at Tony Evans house.
- He learned about kingdom life from watching Tony live life.
- His son ran the 4×400 relay and the kid before his son dropped the batton.
- The 4×400 relay is all about the handoff
- If you have a bad handoff, then you have to work harder to catch up.
- Alot of times we train on the wrong track.
- His son’s response was to reposition himself, in order to get back into the race.
- Who do you mirror your life after?
- (speaking about God the Father) “The more I learn about my Father, the more I have something to model.” -Kirk Franklin
- When Kirk felt like no one noticed him in the industry at the American Music Awards he spoke to God about it. He felt like God gave him a glimpse of what it feels like to be God in our culture.
- The Village Inn video shows Michael Jackson perfectly following the director so that the steps light up.
- Every step will light up, because our steps have been planned out, if we follow the instructions of the Director.
Catalyst Dallas: John Maxwell interview with Andy Stanley
- You can keep what you start and not give it away, but it won’t be much when you end.
- We overestimate the moment and we underestimate the process.
- “At all times i’m one step from stupid.” -John Maxwell
- Stupid is: trying to take shortcuts, ignoring process, and getting something you didn’t earn.
- The best conversations in life come from asking good questions.
Catalyst Dallas: John Maxwell – Lessons from a lifetime of leading
- Get a personal definition of success.
- Maxwell’s definition for HIS personal success (this doesn’t mean it should be yours)
- Knowing my purpose in life
- What are you passionate about? (this is about 75% of the equation to determine your purpose)
- What are my gifts, abilities, and strenghts? (this is about 25% of the equation to determine your purpose)
- Growing to my maximum potential?
- Growth is not an automatic process (death is, everything else is intentional)
- Pause allows growth to catch up
- Sowing seeds to benefit others
- If you help others get where they want, others will help you get where you want.
- Intentionally add value to other people everyday
- If I am going to do this, then I have to value you.
- If I don’t value you, then I will eventually de-value you.
- Who today can I add value to, how can I do it?
- You can’t add value to those who you don’t value.
- In giftedness and abilities work on your strengths, not your weaknesses. In choice work on your weaknesses.
- “God is never going to hold you accountable for a gift you do not have.”
- On a scale of 10, in matters of choice you can go from 1 to 10 quickly, in ability you can only go up between 1 and 3 points
- Follow the rule of 5.
- Get a goal.
- Everyday do 5 things that will help you accomplish your goal.
- Compounded success
- Maxwell on writing books
- Everyday I: read, write, file, ask questions, and write
- Not all day, just everyday
- Trust God everyday with your lunch.
- The story of loaves and fish (Matthew 14:13-21)
- If you trust Him with your lunch it will only be a matter of time until you trust Him w/your life.
Catalyst Dallas: Intro
Well everyone, i’m back and thankful to be so. Well, last week was Catalyst Dallas and I was somehow (thanks to Mrs joshbjones) able to attend this year. With that being said, I am now back to the normal daily grind, and have decided to offer my notes from this years conference as they may be helpful to others. So, my plan is to post notes from the main session for a speaker a day for the next several days. Once that is finished, we’ll see about the labs. On the next post I will start with John Maxwell as I haven’t found his talk covered elsewhere yet. Kent Shaffer has already posted some great notes if you want to check them out. I will cover the same talks, but i’m always up for sharing someone else’s content. Great job Kent! Thanks for being so helpful to all of us.
What We Ought To Do: Part 2
A while back on Conversatio Morum I began writing on the issue of patriotism and it’s role in the church. I raised the question of what we as Christians ought to do regarding patriotism and the Church. What ought we to do when both kingdoms collide? They will collide, if they don’t, then I have to wonder if you are actually living in both kingdoms. Continue reading “What We Ought To Do: Part 2”
What Ought We To Do: Part 1
Here at Conversatio Morum, i’m always looking into culture for what needs to be disregarded, what can be redeemed, and what is a reflection of our Creator. Due to this, there will most definitely be some things that are said here that are more radical than others and you may or may not agree with some of those things. You may, or may not, agree with what’s said here. It may make you angry and you may, or may not, continue to read this. I’m ok either way.
